Root Canal Therapy

Prior to any treatment, you will receive a thorough endodontic examination. In this exam, we determine the extent of the pulpal injury and make sure that the tooth is a good candidate for endodontic therapy. Rest assured that no treatment is begun until all of your questions about your options and possible results are answered and you have given consent for treatment.

Treatment begins by thorough and complete anesthesia of the tooth and surrounding tissues. Because teeth needing endodontic treatment are often painful, we assume your tooth will be more difficult to anesthetize. We have multiple anesthetic techniques to address teeth that are difficult to numb.  Sedation options are available if you are apprehensive. The tooth is isolated with a dental dam and the injured pulp is removed. Then the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned, shaped, disinfected, and sealed. The procedure typically takes one or two appointments. You are then referred back to your general dentist for the final restoration. It is important to have this done within six weeks after your root canal is completed.
